Cannon Beach was named for the cannon that washed ashore from a schooner shipwrecked in 1846. The coastline features one of the world's larger monoliths, Haystack Rock. Called by some "the Carmel of Oregon" Cannon Beach is a beautiful area to visit for the scenery, art and fun!
Haystack Rock:
Haystack Rock is Cannon Beach's most famous landmark. Towering 235 feet above sea level, it was formed from earthquakes and lava millions of years ago. Today, it is a spectacular view of nature and is also home to wild birds and sea life. Seeing it for yourself is a must for anyone visiting the area - be sure to bring your camera!

Terrible Tilly:
Lighthouse fanatics will love the history and mystic of the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse. Built in 1880, on Tillamook Rock Island, the lighthouse was in operation for 77 years to guide ships entering the Columbia River. The lighthouse sits approximately one mile off shore and is visible from the beach. The location made it nearly impossible to build and often times dangerous for the lighthouse staff to reach. It’s long distance out to sea, forced crewmembers to work long shifts that lasted weeks at a time. Thus emerged the nickname "Terrible Tilly."
